MY EXPERIENCE WITH THE BOOK:
This is one of my ALL TIME FAVOURITE READS! It was so enjoyable, and it blew my mind.

CHARACTERS/DYNAMICS:

Tierney: Tierney is out Katniss with a better personality and interest in romance. I absolutely adored her character, and her value of female relationships. My favourite relation involving Tierney was Ryker <3.
Michael: He’s just Gale. That’s all. I liked his role in the ending.
Kiersten: ULTIMATE BITCH QUEEN AND I LOVED IT. Of course, (view spoiler)
Gertie: Her relationship with Tierney was heart-warming, challenging, and so incredibly valuable. It’s rare that you see such a multi-dimensional friendship between women, especially young adults, in entertainment. BLESS, BLESS, BLESS.
Ryker: AHHHH!!! SEXY BROODING LONER MAN WHO RESCUES TIERNEY. FAVE. Totally reminded me of the dynamics from Black Ice. SWOOOOOOON!

PLOT:

This is what I sent my friends last night (totally incomprehensible) –> it contains spoilers, so if you want to read it, go to my Goodreads review.

STRUCTURE:

This story is narrated in first person, through the lens of Tierney.

THEMES:

– Feminism!!!!
– Misogyny
– Sexism in the Bible
– Dystopias
– Gender Roles
– WLW
– Motherhood and sisterhood

QUOTES:

“a person is made up of all the little choices they make in life. The choices no one ever sees.”

“‘In the county, there’s nothing more dangerous than a woman who speaks her mind. That’s what happened to Eve, you know, why we were cast out from heaven. We’re dangerous creatures. Full of devil charms. If given the opportunity, we will use our magic to lure men to sin, to evil, to destruction.'”

THE ENDING:

The climax and the resolution were not what I was expecting– I was thinking it would be like the endings of The Hunger Games books, but it was far more subtle than completely blowing up the oppressive forces. I like that it took a different direction to other books, and it was not your typical HEA. It had a similar solution to the love triangle like Clockwork Princess had.

IMPACT:

I will buying this book in hardback! I have already raved about it to all of my friends, whether they wanted to hear about it or not. I talked my Mum’s ear off about it. I HAVE CHILLS. I LOVE THIS BOOK. SOMEBODY BONK ME ON THE HEAD– I WANT TO FORGET, AND RE-LIVE THE STORY.
