An Ember in the Ashes by Sabaa Tahir
My rating: 3 of 5 stars
MY EXPERIENCE WITH THE BOOK:
I was in the mood for original fantasy, and this book safely delivered! I read it in one sitting, and I expect the next book to be even greater than the first.
CHARACTERS/DYNAMICS:
I think the most interesting character to watch develop was Helene. She turned evil— which was epic. Her complex character added a lot more depth to the story.
The main protags, Laia and Elias (I feel sorry for any dyslexic readers attempting this story, even I got confused!!) were fine. The were pretty two-dimensional. I did enjoy their meaningful motives of rebellion.
PLOT:
Mediocre until ALL THE PLOT TWISTS OCCURRED (aka Part 3).
STRUCTURE:
I understand why there had to be a log introduction, there was a lot of world building. But god damn, I always just want to skip that stuff AND GET INTO THE STUFF THAT WAS MENTIONED from the blurb!!!
THE ENDING:
This has to have one of the best endings of all time (although, I still believe A Court of Mist and Fury wins the title). Well, if you’re okay with cliffhangers. Frankly, I love them. I am so keen for the sequel!
THERE WERE SO MANY PLOT TWISTS. And they were AWESOME.
Great review! I’ve been meaning to read this book since before it came out. Lots of people seem to love it.

YES. I completely agree. This was a entertaining and fast-paced book, but there was just something…missing from it? Thanks for sharing and, as always, fabulous review! ❤
