Brown Girl Dreaming by Jacqueline Woodson
My rating: 3 of 5 stars
MY EXPERIENCE WITH THE BOOK:
I haven’t read much poetry before– and I had no idea this was a collection of poetry when I opened it!
CHARACTERS/DYNAMICS:
Tear worthy.
PLOT:
This should be phrased “life story” really. It breaks your heart. Discrimination sucks, man.

QUOTES:
“I am born in Ohio but the stories of South Carolina already run like rivers through my veins.”
“At the fabric store, we are not Coloured or Negro. We are not thieves or shameful or something to be hidden away. At the fabric store, we’re just people.”
IMPACT:
It didn’t amaze me or anything, but I like to constantly be aware of history’s prejudice.
This book has been on my TBR list for years. I really need to read it. I’ve read some of Jacqueline Woodson’s other work and liked it. Great review!
