The Wrath and the Dawn by Renee Ahdieh
My rating: 3.5 of 5 stars
The only reason this book isn’t a 5/5 starred rating; is because although the plot is diverse and original; the characterisation was the epitome of cliche.
If cliche characters and relationships are fine for you; cool. Enjoy this book. However, for me, I found the characters to be carbon copies of Sarah J. Maas‘ crew, except less sassy.
MY EXPERIENCE WITH THE BOOK:
This book took me 3 days to complete. I found I wasn’t as hooked as other plots. Please don’t mistake me: I ENJOYED THIS BOOK. But I think after reading so much hype from fellow reviewers; it was a bit of a let-down of mediocrity.
CHARACTERS:
Probably the most predictable bunch of people ever. But I like them! I just don’t love/adore them…
CHARACTER DYNAMICS:
So you’re telling me, that this super-hot-but-doesn’t-know-it, gorgeous girl, signs up to be his next wife/victim-of-murder, but they pretty much fall in love after three days??? And have sex within the first night????????????

PLOT:
Original as hell, absolutely amazing,
THE WRITING WAS SO GODDAMN BEAUTIFUL
(for real; some of the best writing I’ve ever read. It was a masterpiece). It finished on a cliff-hanger; but I’m happy to continue on 🙂 I like the love interest, Khalid, enough… I guess. No I take that back; he’s fine. EVERYTHING IN THIS BOOK IS FINE. Hence the middle-rating.
(the writing, guys… the writing!!!)
MY UPDATES:
wait what they had sex the first night? I thought they didn’t until possibly (but not actually) the second book. idk but the reason I didn’t give this five stars was because I just have no retention of the actual plot. like I really enjoy reading it, the writing is beautiful, but if someone asked me to explain what happened i’d be like
“uhhh it’s an Arabian nights retelling. you can check goodreads for the summary?”
because like i read it and the only thing i remember is that it was good? there’s like a 0% retention of the plot and idk why.

2 months later and I totally agree. Like what even happened? Typical angst, cool world, good writing. That’s it. OOps.

I really liked reading it but I have no idea what actually happened. same with the sequel and flame in the mist. there must be like a trigger word or something that made me forget the whole book even a couple of days after reading
