Review: Every Heart a Doorway

Every Heart a Doorway (Wayward Children, #1)Every Heart a Doorway by Seanan McGuire

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Mini Review!

This book was very original. In many ways, it reminded me of Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children. But more dark. If that’s even possible; basically, these are unwanted children who all belong in a different realm, somewhere between Nonsense and Logic. Everything at the boarding school is going fine, until the new girl, Nancy comes alone. Why, you may ask? Because students are dying, missing body parts. Nancy is a prime suspect, as her home is basically the Underworld.

What I really liked about this story is the diversity. The main protag is asexual, and a side character is transgender.

I want to say more but I may hold it for a blog post. The reason this is just a “meh” 3/5 stars is because it was a bit unclear and slow at the start, plus the characters are cool but I’m not super interested in them. Except for one of them who died first. To me, that character was the only one with charisma.
